I would like to thank all current & former Pickett County basketball coaches, for giving me access to the basketball stats that they have acquired and kept over the years. The PCHS 4 point difference from the total of the 3 games, is still a record of the lowest points difference in winning a State Tournament. 129 PCHS points scored to 125 points scored against.
The State Tournament's MVP Award went to a losing South Fulton player. The Lady Bobcats making the Class A, State All-Tournament team were junior guard, Debbie Crabtree & 3
freshmen (forwards Perri Lynn Huckeby & Rebecca Rains & guard Annette Storie). It is still the only time in Tennessee high school State Tournament history that 3 freshman started out in a State Tournament Championship game & won, plus the only time that 3 freshmen from the same State Championship team were selected to be on the State All-Tournament team.

In the 1978 State Tournament, Perrilynn Huckeby won the State Tournament MVP Award, making her the first Pickett County Bobcat, female or male, to win the award. Others on the Class A, State All-Tournament team include Rebecca Rains & all 3 starting guards - Mitzi Rich, Debbie Crabtree & Doris "Doe" Garrett. It was the first & only time in Tennessee State Tournament history that 3 guards were chosen from the same team.

By winning their 3rd straight Tennessee State Tournament Championship, they were the first girl's team to accomplish that & the last & only Tennesse girl's high school team to win 3 straight State Championships in 6 on 6 play. In the 1978-79 Season, the last year of 6 on 6 Play in Tennessee, Doris "Doe" Garrett, a Lady Bobcat Guard, was named MVP of the State Tournament, becoming the only guard to ever win the MVP Award. In the 1979-80 Season, Doris "Doe" Garrett, again was named MVP of the State Tournament, becoming the female to win the MVP Award in 5 on 5 Full Court Play. Others being seleted to the Class A, State All-Tournament team included - Perri Lynn Huckeby, Rebecca Rains, & Mitzi Rich.

By winning the Class A, Girl's State Tournament Championship, they became the first Tennessee Girl's team to win 4 straight State Tournament Championships.
In their 3 1980 State Tournament Games, the Lady Bobcats outscored their opponents 176 to 112, a difference of 64 points or 21.3 points per game.
In the 1980 Championship Game, Doris "Doe" Garrett, scored 10 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 7 assists & 6 steals, earning her a 2nd State Championship MVP. She is still the only female player to have 6 or more in all 4 catagories in a State Championship Game. Others making the Class A, State All-Tournament team included - Perri Lynn Huckeby & Rebecca Rains (both girls were selected on the State All-Tournament team all 4 years that they played & both had 12 wins as starters) & Debbie Huddleston. Doris "Doe" Garrett had 12 wins as player, but only 10 wins as a starter, making Huckeby, Rains & Garrett, the only 3 Tennessee high school basketball players to ever start out in 10 or more State Tournament games & win them all.
The 1980 Lady Bobcats are still the only girl's team to have all 5 starters score at least 10 points each & have at least 5 rebounds each in a State Championship Game.

The Lady Bobcats had 14 Wins & 17 Losses, going into the Regional Tournament, of which, they won all 3 Regional Games to bring their overall record to 17 Wins & 17 Losses.

With this victory, it was only the 3rd time all year, that the Lady Bobcats were once again, one win more than their losses, with an overall record of 18 Wins & 17 Losses.

Winning all 3 State Tournament Games brought their overall record to 21 Wins & 17 Losses, by far the worse record for a team to ever win the Class A Girl's State Championship. In 2012, Clay County won the State Tournament with 9 Losses, placing them in the 2nd worse record spot.
For the 2nd time with the Lady Bobcats winning the State Tournament, the MVP Award went to the losing team's player on Denmark West, just like it did in 1977 with South Fulton.

The 1990 Bobcats beat Clarkrange all 5 times during the year - 2 Regular Season Games, the District Semi-Final Game, The Regional Championship Game & finally, the State Championship Game, making it the first & only time in Class A Boy's State Basketball history that one team, the Bobcats, beat another team, Clarkrange, 5 times in one year to capture the State Tournament Championship.

3 games. (It is the only time it has ever been done by 7 teammates on ANY, girls or boys, Tennessee State Tournament Team. The 7 teammates were Allie Amonett,
Ella Kate Keisling, Callie Reeder, Emerson "Emmy" Lowe, Zoey Nicholas,
Kaylee Tompkins, Addison "Addy" Lowe.
